FETAX for Neurotox
نویسنده
چکیده
Suinmary Seventy-nine patients with advanced breast cancer were tested for the presence. in serum. of a 110 kDa soluble. c-erbB-2 fragment. Thirty-nine patients were seropositive. There was no correlation between seropositivity and menopausal status. or with oestrogen status. In addition, no correlation could be found between tissue c-erbB-2 immunostaining for the external domain of the c-erbB-2 receptor and the presence of soluble c-erbB-2 in serum. The presence of serum soluble c-erbB-2 . however. had a significant impact on survival of patients with advanced disease. suggesting that this test may become a useful independent prognostic indicator.

Are Fish and Standardized FETAX Assays Protective Enough for Amphibians? A Case Study on Xenopus laevis Larvae Assay with Biologically Active Substances Present in Livestock Wastes
Biologically active substances could reach the aquatic compartment when livestock wastes are considered for recycling. Recently, the standardized FETAX assay has been questioned, and some researchers have considered that the risk assessment performed on fish could not be protective enough to cover amphibians. In the present study a Xenopus laevis acute assay was developed in order to compare th...
متن کاملThe toxicity and teratogenicity of gibberellic acid (GA3) based on the frog embryo teratogenesis assay-Xenopus (FETAX)
This study investigated the developmental toxicity of a plant growth regulator (a type of pesticide) using the frog embryo teratogenesis assay-Xenopus (FETAX). Xenopus laevis embryos were exposed to 11 different concentrations of gibberellic acid (GA3), from stage 8 to 11, for 96 h under static renewal test conditions. The median lethal concentration (LC50), malformation (EC50), non-observed ad...
متن کاملMorphological Changes in Xenopus laevis Embryos with Lithium and Evaluation of the Fetax Test
The main goal was to standardize the FETAX (Frog Embryos Teratogenesis Assay: Xenopus) test. Since lithium ions are known to be teratogenic for embryos of many organisms, they were prefferred for our first standardization assay. Xenopus laevis embryos were exposed to lithium chloride (from 2x10–4 to 6 x 10–3 M concentrations) for 96 hours at 2–4 cell stages of development. Exposure to lower LiC...
متن کاملInvestigation of the teratogenic potential of ochratoxin A and B using the FETAX system.
BACKGROUND Ochratoxin A (OTA) is a mycotoxin produced by certain Aspergillus and Penicillium species. It has been observed to be teratogenic in a number of animal models including rat, mouse, hamster, and chick, with reduced birth weight and craniofacial abnormalities being the most commonly observed malformations. Neither the potential of OTA to cause malformations in humans nor its teratogeni...
متن کاملWhat's happening to our frogs?
Since the 1980s, there has been increasing attention in the scientific community to the possibility of a worldwide decline in amphibian populations [for example, Carey and Bryant (1)]. Concerns about amphibians further heightened in 1995 when middle school students reported on the Internet (2) a high incidence of malformed frogs from a southern Minnesota farm pond (3). Indeed, there is now a we...
